Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday's look at 12 years ago. .  .some things have changed a lot and some have not changed at all.  We are still carving Pumpkins at Halloween, but Blonde hair is darker and we are much taller! Grew 6 inches this past year alone. This little one is now taller than mom.  Wow time sure does fly.  These were good times they were.

The Moments No. 31 - Happy Halloween!

Pixie, kobold, elf, and sprite,
All are on their rounds tonight;
In the wan moon's silver ray,
Thrives their helter-skelter play.
~Joel Benton

Oh Halloween, I miss the homemade costumes, I miss the pumpkin carving, missing the craziness of the night, it is not all over, but it has changed.  This is the last big costume that I made- about 4 years ago . . . . Great Gray OWl. Whoo knew it would be the last?
We have had many adult parties over the years and are well overdo for another one- so 2014 let the fun begin . . .

Pumpkins 2011

Here is what 2 teens and a tween produced the night before Halloween.  We had grandparents over for a baked Potato and Apple Pie feast while the kids carved their pumpkins. This was met with mixed interest this year as some felt they needed to do homework . . . mama never said Pumpkins come first for sure.

Its Pumpkin time!!!

There is nothing quite so telling of this time of year as a big orange Pumpkin.  We made a stop on our fall pilgrimage of sorts to buy family pumpkins.  So many choices and it was a gorgeous fall day, warm sunny and brilliant blue skies.  After this stop was Cider, cheese and apples!! Loved some of the colors of Indian Corn this year.

Post - Halloween

Another Halloween has come and gone. Some things never change like carving pumpkins in the kitchen, roasting pumpkin seeds, dreaming up Costumes, sorting candy, cut out cookies, decorating . . . . then it all changes as kids age out of trick or treating and we are left with just one that goes out . . . finding a new location and friends to go with. It was a cold one last night complete with snow and ice and rain. Yoda was Jack O'Lantern for Halloween. Flowergirl stayed home and had a bonfire with her Dad. Hallow's Eve when we are between worlds- Oren our red cat was wild last night, was it the weather or was it the Night?

Whole Truth Part 1

There we go posting before anything is actually written.
Answer- less distraction when writing.

This will be a series of posts answering questions from a magazine page.

My favorite place in the world: I really love Jordan Pond on Mount Desert Island Acadia Maine.
By a lake or a Pond is also nice without it needing to be a specific place.

No one knows . . . . well not a lot of people, that I survived on an uninhabitable island in a small group for 7 days, I lost 10 pounds and ate snake we caught, crayfish and a lot of wild nettle or strawberry tea. I learned a lot about my self and about working in a group. I dreamed a lot about food and thought deeply about those who go without enough nourishment on a regular basis.

The lesson I keep learning over and over . . . . never judge a book by its cover, and LISTEN really well.

How I live Green . . . . I hang my laundry outside, I use cloth bags at the grocery, I compost green material, recycle all that is possible, LED bulbs, refillable water bottles, buy local when able.

Halloween a coming . . . .

What does Halloween Look like at your house?
Well here at Chestnut Hill, here are some of the comings and goings.
Decorations here and there, trying on masks, baking sweet Halloween treats. Looking through books and magazines for new fun ideas, both to make and to eat. Deciding on a costume and how to carve our pumpkins, scary, happy, abstract? We greet each Holiday with lots of enthusiasm!! Bring them on, we are ready. We need to decide where to Trick or treat as well. Living rurally we need to go to somewhere else to Trick or treat. Stay tuned for more Halloween!
