Mandalas

So first I was visiting Daisy Yellow down in Texas . . . . and I watched her Mandala Madness video
found here  .  Her videos are always inspiring, creative and have great music.  You will not be disappointed. Then I ventured out on my own and created these.  It always feels great to have completed something artistic. My days are filled with helping people and documenting on a computer so it is a great escape to do something like this.   Give it a try.

Everyday October . . . .

"What I really love about them... is the fact that they contain someone's personal history...I find myself wondering about their lives. I can never look at a garment/shoes... without thinking about the woman who owned it. How old was she? Did she work? Was she married? Was she happy?... I look at these exquisite shoes, and I imagine the woman who owned them rising out of them or kissing someone...I look at a little hat like this, I lift up the veil, and I try to imagine the face beneath it... When you buy a piece of vintage clothing you're not just buying the fabric and thread - you're buying a piece of someone's past.”
Isabel Wolff, A Vintage Affair

What Story's do these shoes tell?  It is in interesting question don't you think? Where have they traveled ? What have they explored?  How many inches taller did the boy wearing them grow - while wearing them?  They belong to a 14 year old who has all but grown out of them in a mere 5 months.  He shopped in stores and online to get them and realized the cost of some of the shoes and sneakers that his friends were wearing. He was surprised to say the least.  He got these for around $50.00 so this mama was pleased as these days that is pretty good for sneakers.

Everyday October . . . .

SourDough Starter . . . I make a Rustic Sourdough bread 1-2x a week.  My husband thought the starter needed to get more Sour - so he let it rest outside for a while to get more natural yeast in it.
Just another part of everyday life for us. Nothing better then bread fresh from the oven!

Baby Quilt #2 . . .

So I knew that my co-worker was having a boy and I love owls.  I found this cute Owl fabric- large squares . . .  Then I picked fabrics to go with it.   I wanted something simple all the way around.  The outer borders I searched for a while on  what to Quilt in there and then it came to me . . . Hands of course.   I am a OT/ CHT- Certified Hand Therapist  the mama is a LPN in the Hand Surgery Practice that I just left. . . so Quilted Hands was a natural choice and a good space filler.  The Baby Shower is this Friday.  I hope to make a Pet Mesh bag to match it before then .

Everyday October . . . . .

One can never have enough socks," said Dumbledore. "Another Christmas has come and gone and I didn't get a single pair. People will insist on giving me books.”
J.K. Rowlings

The sock basket is the bane of my existence . . .let it be known - that I hate to match up socks and I have tried every "help" out there.  Rubberbands, bags clips etc...   It is what it is . . . . This too shall pass.  Perhaps then I will look back and yearn for the days that I had so many socks to worry about matching . . .

Everyday October . . . .

Lunch Boxes

We are a brown bag it family.  My kids never liked  buying  school lunches and my husband and I have always taken our lunches.   We have a fleet of freezer packs to keep the contents cold.   My husband brings his coffee cup back home in his lunch bag every day,  Since starting my new job - I have to be mindful to pack the lunches as best I can the night before.   I don't really like packing lunches. I love when there is school break and I only have to take care of my self!  Although I do not think on a regular basis my kids have seen the value in packing there own . . . but when they are at an event where they have to buy- they have then realized that they get very little food to eat for a lot of Money.  Are you a lunch bringer or a lunch buyer?

Everyday October . . . . .

Every Sunday here at Chestnut Hill the Sunday Comics are a weekend routine.  Every one but me reads them cover to cover.   I have never been a comics reader. I don't really know why either.  When I was looking at this picture- I did have to think, how long until paper Sunday comics will be a thing of the past?  We still get the paper daily but I know we are in the minority with that.  Yes we can read it online but I like the connection of sitting at the table with paper and tea or curling up with a quilt and the paper to see what is happening. The paper version means we can all look at something together easier than crowding all around a screen.  Screens are all to common these days and the less we can be in front of one the better.

Everyday October . . . .

So Every Day October is about every day things . . . kinda like a day in the life . . .  trying to not miss the everyday   that some day will be completely different.

Everyday this is where my 3 cats eat . . . . They each have there own bowl.  We feed them on the stairs because Edna - our Yellow Lab does not climb stairs and she leaves the bowls alone.  Otherwise- Edna would always eat the cat food!!!!
